Once you finish the series, there's a good collection of short stories called Road Brothers, that goes into some backstory for various characters.

I’ll check those out. I’m also interested in the Red Queen’s War, set around the same time in the same world, but following different characters.

I found a really cool store in downtown Toronto; It's owned by the boutique Blue Ray label Vinegar Syndrome (which does high quality remastering of cult movies and the like), but they have tons of stuff from other labels. Real treasure trove. Place is pricey, but it's actually a little bit lower than buying online. Wasn't aware that VS owned their own retro movie shop, so I kind of went crazy XD

In this economy?

Cant even go to the grocery store for the day without spending 30 dollars, much less micro trans anything

I imagine that the kinds of people who are okay with spending hundreds of dollars on skins during a good year are also the ones most comfortable doing so in bad ones.

It's good though a much different tone. The main character is a playboy jokester and I found him irritating, though he has moments. However it's mostly a Viking setting and his companion is basically Boldir, so I think you will enjoy it.

The Viking setting definitely has me eager to get to it. I’m on the second to last chapter of King of Thorns, so I’ll be finishing that one today and moving on to Emperor of Thorns to see how Jorg inevitably fucks up the entire world. XD

They are quick reads which is a blessing and curse. I got weirdly attached to Jorg. It was hard to move on.

He’s such a sneaky bastard, it’s hard not to enjoy watching him barely scrape through danger after danger by fighting as dirty as humanly possible. I left off right before his big duel with the Prince of Arrow and-

-the fact that he’s literally bringing a gun to a sword fight in a world where nobody even knows what "guns" are is just the funniest thing to me. Dude spent the entire book, four years, honing his abilities as a swordsman to some of the best in the world, and he’s seriously about to put a cap in this fool. XD

I've been floundering around looking for something new to listen to on my commute. I tried going back to old favorites, Louis L'Amour and Ellis Peters, but they don't have the same charm as they did when I was a teenager. I'll probably go finish the Lonesome Dove novels.

I finished a replay of Phantom Liberty, this time siding with Reed.

I had been under the impression you didn't have to deal with that fucking instadeath robot at all on this path. I was robbed.

XD

I played through the ending where V decides to trust the government. She got rightly rolled over that decision. Man, how fucking depressing. Time to go cleanse my palate by doing the Nomad ending once again.

You don’t have to deal with that robot segment but it requires that you side against Reed. The final levels are in a whole different area if you’re not on his team.

Yeah, the ending where you take the FIA’s deal hits like a truck, but it’s honestly one of my favorites. It’s not all bad. It is the only way for V to survive without entering Soulkiller and being diagnosed with just a few months to live.

Wait, what? How? I sided with So Mi the first time and it was even worse.

It’s gotta be at Hansen’s stadium where you side with her.

If you do that, the final level is you two sneaking through the space port to try and smuggle her out of Night City. No killer horror robots involved.

The robot stuff is only for if you anger So Mi at the stadium and she runs away, causing you and Reed to pursue her underground.

But I did side with her but she escaped to Cynosure and I had to do the killer robot thing.

Weird.

In my three runs, she only went to Cynosure if I sided with Reed and betrayed her, making her go cyberpsycho and get scooped up by MaxTac.

When I sided with So Mi, she never went cyberpsycho, so MaxTac and Cynosure never got involved and the final level was completely different. We just escaped the stadium together and Reed disappeared promising to hunt us down.
