Man, boys I gotta be honest. Elder scrolls is kinda dead to me. I just don’t enjoy it much anymore. Fallout is infinitely more interesting to me nowadays. I just like it better I guess. Also after a more in depth think, I’m a Brotherhood guy through and through, even the chapters I’m not 100% about (lyons) I still fuck with heavy

TES isn’t dead to me and I still enjoy it plenty, but I definitely agree about liking Fallout better. Pretty handily, in fact. I think it’s just a better series when done right.

Course, interest in both waxes and wanes at various times. Sometimes I’m in more of a high fantasy mood and TES scratches that itch. But what I’m in the mood for at a given time doesn’t really reflect what I’d consider my overall favorite.

Speaking of the Witcher conversation. One thing that just came to mind is how much effort went into the frost Giant in Skellige. They could have just had his lore be waking up, killing men and eating sheep or whatever.

Instead he enslaves the former Jarl to build him a ship so the giant can sail out to see and supposely do battle with the gods at the end of the world, to save the world from destruction.

That is insanely cool and endearing story from what is largely an inconsequential monster.

Yeah, they put a lot of effort into fleshing out what could’ve easily just been another monster hunt. Whole thing felt worthy of being in an Edda.

It's not quite dead to me; but I remember a conversation I had with Doc about how the world presented in the lore, pocket guides, and Morrowind (and some of the expansions, like Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine) are a completely different world then what's in the newer games. I still love THAT world. As for the newer games...meh XD

You probably remember because it was two days ago. XD

But yeah, Morrowind/Redguard/1st Pocket Guide Era TES is the universe I’ve really come to love. That and the RP.

I still like the rest and have hope for future titles, but Oblivion onward barely feels like part of the same world as the series at its peak. Morrowind never really got a sequel.

I guess this is why I just don’t vibe with tes anymore. If oblivion and Skyrim had the same level of care thought put into them as Morrowind did they’d be untouchable. It’s just kinda died for me. I really only like Morrowind now and that’s just sad in a way

It’s painful because all the foreshadowing makes it so easy to see what the sequel to Morrowind was supposed to be, and how it would’ve tied together every game from Arena on up.

Uriel dies of old age or failing health and various factions accuse his sons of being doppelgängers planted by Jagar Tharn, resulting in a succession crisis or war. Civil strife escalates and the Empire collapses under its own weight and age as Wulf foretold. The Oblivion Crisis occurs in the midst of it all as the doomsday cult foretold. It ends with the Empire gone and "something new" emerging in its place, its nature determined by the player character as Wulf implied would be the case.

It would have tied the entire series together with a neat little bow. Arena gets paid off through the doppelgänger plot. Daggerfall gets paid off through the succession crisis plot (some Breton rulers in that game being Septim heirs themselves). Morrowind gets paid off by all of the events it foreshadowed coming to a head.

@Centurion I know you didn't jive with D3, but you should really give Elden Ring a go; the world is filled with deliciously weird world-building that give me an old school TES feel (though it leans more towards a more overtly Norse Mythology inspired Middle Earth. XD) That if if you have a fantasy inch at all.

Due to it's open-ended nature (you can pretty much tackle anything the way you want, and if you hit a road block, just fuck off and get stronger somewhere else)

I’ve softened on Lyons over the years. I still think he’s an idiot for never finding the source of the super mutants, but him "going native" and caring about the locals is not a bad story beat, especially not when it had major consequences with the Outcasts.

As for the Brotherhood as a whole, they’re neat, have a great style, great characters, and I like the questions they raise. That said, I am very tired of them being treated by Bethesda as the mascot faction and basically the main characters of the setting.

Far as favorite factions go, my favorite major one (in terms of writing, not who I support) is probably the NCR.

Dark souls/elden ring will never interest me. I like characters and stories and not overly gaudy armor and “lore” you get from reading the description of a flower as you go from one boss fight to the next

It's fine to not like progression by bosses; but objectively Souls armor is on average way more gritty and down to earth then other Fantasy games XD

All of those sets belong to wizards, literal Demigods, creatures, and Arthurian-esque knights and heroes XD It's archetypical high fantasy's stuff. For everyone of those there's also stuff like this;

Yup. That’s a list of the Fallout games, right there. XD

Any reasons for these positions?

1 hour ago, Centurion said:

1>4>NV>3>2>tactics>76>Fallout Brotherhood of Steel 😆

Fallout 1 because it’s the first and it’s the foundation. I actually like 4, and NV ahead of them, but it feels wrong to not place them in the number one slot

Fallout 4: despite being in Fallout 4 lol, Maxson’s BoS is the best hands down. The are powerful, organized, a perfect blend between traditional Brotherhood of Steel values and modern-wasteland survival tactics. They still horde and safeguard technology, but they also combat dangers to the average person. They still have BoS raised members, but they have a stringent recruiting process to ensure the chapter does stagnate and die. And let’s not forget they are lead by the one, the only, Elder Arthur fucking Maxson.

New Vegas: They are the natural projection of Fallout 1’s BoS. The conservative elements in their own chapter showing what happens when the BoS refuses to adapt. On the other hand, the clearly defined roles, responsibilities, and bunker living is just cool

Fallout 3: Power armor, murder robot, pentagon. Shows the other extreme. Whereas the west is far too conservative, Lyons is far too altruistic. He bleeds his forces dry combating supermutants without doing proper scouting missions to discover where they are actually coming from

Fallout 2: they are just kinda there I guess?

Tactics: The game gets their basic lore fucking wrong and it annoys me. And they are just way, way to different from the other chapters that it doesn’t even feel like they are the same

76: we’ll they’re dead. Also satellites I guess. Then the new ones, there’s 3 members and they have a fight, now there’s 2. Cool

and fallout brotherhood of steel: do I even need to explain?

Never played, never even seen a copy, ne’er have heard anything positive what so ever about

I’ll sum it up for you with the first line from the trailer, delivered by the 20 to 30ish-year-old protagonist:

"I was born just after the bombs fell."

Note that the game is set may decades after Fallout 1. XD
